This beautifully engraved image takes the form of hunt with Prince Maurice riding on horseback and leading a procession of fellow riders comprising his generals in a hunting party; ahead is a horse laden with the spoils of the hunt; a ribbon is presented and homage is given to a finely attired woman representing the federation of "Belgica" (sometimes known as the Dutch Virgin,) a personification of the united provinces.
She stands under the coats of arms of the various provinces and flanked by female attendants personifications of art and science; floating overhead is the goddess Fama trumpeting Victory with a laurel wreath; in the foreground at left, a boy stands beside a man with a musket on his shoulder and holds the collar of a large hunting dog. In the background are depicted all sorts of good stuff, scenes of commerce, shipping, dairy farming, falconry, deer (Heart) and wild boar hunting.
Latin inscription. Bartsch 10(222).
